Mud Sales Lancaster County PA Dutch Country 2015

Lancaster County Mud Sales 2015In the bleakness of winter, it seems at times that the sun will never shine again…..the skies will never be blue again, only gray!  But here’s a cheery thought-it’s MUD SALE SEASON!!  To many that phrase might sound just as dreary as the winter skies, but in Lancaster County, Mud Sale Season signifies the beginning of SPRING!

Mud Sales are unique only to southeastern Pennsylvania, and are named as such because of the thawing ground at this time of year (late winter-early spring). They are held as fund raisers by approximately 18 Fire Companies throughout the county, and most take place from late February to early April.
Lancaster County PA Mud Sales 2015 What can you buy at a Mud Sale? Well, a little bit of EVERYTHING, including the kitchen sink!
Many of the sale goers are Amish farmers who buy and sell farm equipment-in preparation for the upcoming planting season. In addition to farm equipment for sale, there are plenty of other items, such as, livestock, buggies, housewares, antiques, crafts, quilts, chicken corn soup, whoopie pies (& other yummy baked goods), and lots of other PA Dutch goodies-both edible and non edible.

Here are some tips for attending Mud Sales:
