HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Pork-&-Sauerkrautwww.realLancasterCounty.com wishes all of our friends a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
For those who are in Lancaster County on January 1 and don’t have plans for lunch…bring your appetites and your families to celebrate the New Year at the Kinzer Fire Companies annual pork & sauerkraut meal! Their home-made sauerkraut and fresh pork is sure to put a smile on your face and they guarantee you will not go home hungry!  They started your meal in October when they cut up the cabbage for sauerkraut preparation.

If you can’t make it to Kinzers, there are other local fire companies and several community churches scattered throughout the County that also serve this traditional NEW YEAR’s favorite in Lancaster County, including Lititz Church of the Brethren & United Zion Church of Akron.

Kinzers-Fire-HallPork & sauerkraut symbolize progress and prosperity and is a New Year’s Day tradition throughout the world. Various sources note..since pigs move forward while foraging for food, serving pork is thought to bring progress for the New Year. And because the color of cabbage resembles currency, serving cabbage dishes like sauerkraut is thought to bring prosperity.
